  1. 1. Coding Guide — Route A: 100-499 Harlow St; 10-99 Quinnet Ave. Route B: 500-899 Harlow St. Route C: all addresses on Verdon Ln. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. To which route should 742 Harlow St be assigned?

    • A.Route D
    • B.Route A
    • C.Route C
    • D.Route BAnswer

A coding-guide assignment requires two things at once: the street name must match a listed entry and the house number must fall inside that entry's numeric band. Harlow St is listed twice — 100-499 on Route A and 500-899 on Route B — and 742 falls inside the second band, so the address is coded B. The street name by itself never decides the route.

  2. 2. Coding Guide — Route A: 200-599 Pellam Rd. Route B: 600-999 Pellam Rd; 40-89 Braxby Ct. Route C: all addresses on Ondell Way. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. To which route should 1240 Pellam Rd be assigned?

    • A.Route A
    • B.Route C
    • C.Route B
    • D.Route DAnswer

The street name matches a listed street, but the Pellam Rd bands stop at 999, so 1240 falls outside every range in the guide. Route D is defined as the catch-all for any address not covered by a listed range, so the item is coded D. A correct street with an out-of-range number is the single most commonly missed pattern in this drill.

  3. 3. Coding Guide — Route A: 1200-1799 Marisk Blvd; 25-74 Tarnley Dr. Route B: 1800-2399 Marisk Blvd. Route C: all addresses on Klemper Ave. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. To which route should 1200 Marisk Blvd be assigned?

    • A.Route AAnswer
    • B.Route B
    • C.Route D
    • D.Route C

Coding-guide ranges are inclusive of both stated endpoints, so 1200 is the first address inside Route A's 1200-1799 Marisk Blvd band rather than a number just outside it. Candidates who treat an endpoint as 'outside the range' over-select Route D and lose items they had actually read correctly.

  4. 4. Coding Guide — Route A: 300-749 Windrow Ter. Route B: 750-1199 Windrow Ter; 5-49 Fenmark Pl. Route C: all addresses on Osterby Cir. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. To which route should 1199 Windrow Ter be assigned?

    • A.Route A
    • B.Route BAnswer
    • C.Route D
    • D.Route C

1199 is the last number in Route B's 750-1199 Windrow Ter band, and a listed range includes its final number as well as its first. The address is therefore coded B, not D; only 1200 and above would fall outside every listed range on this street.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — listed address ranges are inclusive of their stated endpointsReport a problem with this question

  5. 5. Coding Guide — Route A: 100-399 Delvin St. Route B: 400-899 Delvin St; 20-79 Grasby Ln. Route C: all addresses on Hallock Ave. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. To which route should 355 Delvin St be assigned?

    • A.Route D
    • B.Route C
    • C.Route AAnswer
    • D.Route B

Delvin St is split between two routes: the low band 100-399 belongs to Route A and the high band 400-899 belongs to Route B. Since 355 sits in the lower band, the address is coded A. When a street appears under more than one route, only the house number can decide the answer.

  6. 6. Coding Guide — Route A: 50-249 Norrick Rd. Route B: 250-649 Norrick Rd. Route C: 1000-1499 Sable Ave; 10-59 Trestle Ct. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. Which address belongs to Route C?

    • A.175 Norrick Rd
    • B.700 Norrick Rd
    • C.62 Trestle Ct
    • D.1320 Sable AveAnswer

Route C is assigned 1000-1499 Sable Ave and 10-59 Trestle Ct, and 1320 falls inside the Sable Ave band. Of the others, 175 Norrick Rd is Route A, 700 Norrick Rd is past Route B's 649 endpoint, and 62 Trestle Ct is three numbers above Route C's 59 endpoint, so both of those go to Route D.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — Coding Guide matching rule plus Route D catch-allReport a problem with this question

  7. 7. Coding Guide — Route A: 100-499 Camber Ln. Route B: 500-999 Camber Ln. Route C: 20-89 Riddick Pl. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. Which address must be coded to Route D?

    • A.500 Camber Ln
    • B.90 Riddick PlAnswer
    • C.89 Riddick Pl
    • D.499 Camber Ln

90 Riddick Pl is one number past the 20-89 band on Route C and matches no other listed range, so the catch-all rule sends it to Route D. The other three sit exactly on or inside listed bands — 499 ends Route A's band, 500 begins Route B's, and 89 ends Route C's — and endpoints are inclusive.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — Route D catch-all rule; ranges inclusive of endpointsReport a problem with this question

  8. 8. Coding Guide — Route A: 200-699 Halbrook St; 15-64 Merrow Ct. Route B: 700-1199 Halbrook St. Route C: all addresses on Ivrey Ln. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. How many of these five addresses are coded to Route A: 645 Halbrook St; 64 Merrow Ct; 700 Halbrook St; 12 Merrow Ct; 214 Halbrook St?

    • A.3Answer
    • B.4
    • C.2
    • D.5

Route A covers 200-699 Halbrook St and 15-64 Merrow Ct, so 645 Halbrook St, 214 Halbrook St and 64 Merrow Ct (an inclusive endpoint) are all A — three addresses. 700 Halbrook St starts Route B's band, and 12 Merrow Ct is below the 15 that opens Route A's Merrow Ct band, so it is D.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — Coding Guide matching rule; inclusive endpoints; Route D catch-allReport a problem with this question

  9. 9. Coding Guide — Route A: 1-99 Prentiss Way. Route B: 100-499 Prentiss Way. Route C: all addresses on Yarrow Ln. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. Which of these proposed assignments is INCORRECT?

    • A.6300 Yarrow Ln to Route C
    • B.100 Prentiss Way to Route B
    • C.500 Prentiss Way to Route BAnswer
    • D.48 Prentiss Way to Route A

Route B's Prentiss Way band ends at 499, so 500 Prentiss Way falls outside every listed range and must be coded D, not B. The other three are correct: 48 is inside 1-99, 100 is the inclusive first number of Route B's band, and Route C covers the whole of Yarrow Ln with no numeric limit, so 6300 qualifies.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — Route D catch-all rule; whole-street entries carry no numeric limitReport a problem with this question

  10. 10. Coding Guide — Route A: 400-899 Dunmore Ave; 30-79 Kettle Ct. Route B: 900-1399 Dunmore Ave. Route C: all addresses on Palfrey Ln. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. According to this guide, which route is responsible for 30-79 Kettle Ct?

    • A.Route C
    • B.Route AAnswer
    • C.Route B
    • D.Route D

The guide gives Route A two separate entries, one on Dunmore Ave and one on Kettle Ct, so the 30-79 Kettle Ct band belongs to A. In the memory version of this drill the identical table is used with the guide removed, which is why the reliable method is to fix each street-to-route pair first and attach the digits afterwards.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 2 (Memory) — same Coding Guide used with the guide removedReport a problem with this question

  11. 11. Coding Guide — Route A: 100-599 N Ambrey St. Route B: 100-599 S Ambrey St. Route C: all addresses on Crowder Ln. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. To which route should 300 E Ambrey St be assigned?

    • A.Route A
    • B.Route C
    • C.Route B
    • D.Route DAnswer

A directional such as N, S, E or W is part of the street name, not decoration. The guide lists only N Ambrey St and S Ambrey St; E Ambrey St appears nowhere, so the address falls outside every listed range and is coded D even though the number 300 sits comfortably inside both printed bands.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — directional prefix is part of the street name; Route D catch-allReport a problem with this question

  12. 12. Coding Guide — Route A: 200-799 Weald St. Route B: 800-1299 Weald St. Route C: 10-99 Weald Ct. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. To which route should 450 Weald Ave be assigned?

    • A.Route DAnswer
    • B.Route C
    • C.Route A
    • D.Route B

The street suffix is part of the street name. The guide lists Weald St and Weald Ct but never Weald Ave, so 450 Weald Ave matches no listed range and goes to Route D. Reading the number first and the suffix second is the classic cause of this miss, because 450 does fall inside Route A's numeric band.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — street suffix is part of the street name; Route D catch-allReport a problem with this question

  13. 13. Coding Guide — Route A: 100-499 Barrow St. Route B: 500-899 Barrow St. Route C: all addresses on Barlow St. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. To which route should 620 Barlow St be assigned?

    • A.Route D
    • B.Route B
    • C.Route CAnswer
    • D.Route A

Barlow St and Barrow St differ by one letter and are two different streets. Route C covers all of Barlow St with no numeric limit, so 620 Barlow St is C; Route B's 500-899 band belongs to Barrow St and does not apply. Near-identical street names are a deliberate trap, so the name must be read letter by letter before the number is checked.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — near-identical street names must be matched exactly before the numeric range is appliedReport a problem with this question

  14. 14. Coding Guide — Route A: 100-499 Kestrel Rd. Route B: PO Box 1-500. Route C: RR 3 Box 1-99. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. To which route should RR 3 Box 45 be assigned?

    • A.Route D
    • B.Route CAnswer
    • C.Route B
    • D.Route A

Rural route and PO Box lines are matched exactly like street lines: the identifier must match and the box number must fall inside the listed range. Route C's only entry is RR 3 Box 1-99, and box 45 lies inside it, so the item is coded C. A PO Box number in the same numeric neighbourhood would belong to Route B instead, because the identifier differs.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — PO Box and Rural Route entries are matched by identifier plus box-number rangeReport a problem with this question

  15. 15. Coding Guide — Route A: 100-499 Tolliver St. Route B: 500-999 Tolliver St. Route C: all addresses on Nesbit Ln. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. To which route should 8412 Nesbit Ln be assigned?

    • A.Route D
    • B.Route CAnswer
    • C.Route A
    • D.Route B

Route C is listed as all addresses on Nesbit Ln, an entry with no numeric band at all, so every house number on that street codes to C — 8412 included. A whole-street entry has no upper limit, so an unusually large number is not by itself a reason to choose Route D.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — whole-street Coding Guide entries carry no numeric limitReport a problem with this question

  16. 16. Coding Guide — Route A: 250-799 Hadwell Ave. Route B: 800-1249 Hadwell Ave. Route C: 5-64 Orbin Ct. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. Which of these assignments is CORRECT?

    • A.1250 Hadwell Ave to Route B
    • B.64 Orbin Ct to Route CAnswer
    • C.800 Hadwell Ave to Route A
    • D.249 Hadwell Ave to Route A

64 Orbin Ct sits exactly on the last number of Route C's 5-64 band, and endpoints are inclusive, so that assignment is right. 249 Hadwell Ave is one below Route A's opening number and 1250 is one above Route B's closing number, so both belong to Route D, while 800 Hadwell Ave opens Route B's band rather than Route A's.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — inclusive endpoints; one-off numbers fall to Route DReport a problem with this question

  17. 17. Coding Guide — Route A: 140-189 Sculley St. Route B: 1400-1890 Sculley St. Route C: all addresses on Reddick Ln. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. To which route should 1900 Sculley St be assigned?

    • A.Route B
    • B.Route DAnswer
    • C.Route A
    • D.Route C

1900 is above the 1890 that closes Route B's band and is nowhere near the three-digit 140-189 band on Route A, so no listed range covers it and it is coded D. Digit count matters as much as the leading digits here: 145 Sculley St would be Route A, while 1450 Sculley St would be Route B.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — Route D catch-all; digit-count traps in similar numeric bandsReport a problem with this question

  18. 18. Coding Guide — Route A: 100-549 Emberly Rd. Route B: 550-1099 Emberly Rd. Route C: all addresses on Vance Ct. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. To which route should 549 Emberly Rd be assigned?

    • A.Route B
    • B.Route AAnswer
    • C.Route D
    • D.Route C

Emberly Rd is split across two routes and the two bands touch: A ends at 549 and B starts at the very next number, 550. Because a listed range includes its final number, 549 is the last Route A address on the street, so the correct code is A.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — inclusive endpoints on adjoining bands of a two-route streetReport a problem with this question

  19. 19. Coding Guide — Route A: 100-499 Belden St; 20-69 Ormsby Ct. Route B: 500-899 Belden St. Route C: all addresses on Kinvara Ln. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. In a memory exercise the same guide is withdrawn before the items are answered. Which preparation approach is most reliable?

    • A.Learn which street names belong to which route first, then attach the leading digits of each rangeAnswer
    • B.Memorize every range endpoint digit by digit before learning which streets belong to which route
    • C.Answer Route D for every item so that no out-of-range address is ever missed
    • D.Copy the guide onto scratch paper so it can be consulted while answering

There are far fewer street names than digits, and the names are what make the numeric bands meaningful, so locking street-to-route associations first and then attaching leading digits (1xx-4xx Belden = A) survives recall pressure best. Memorizing full endpoints first typically burns the study time before any association is formed, notes are not permitted, and blanket Route D answers throw away every item that does sit in a listed range. This drill reproduces the retired Exam 473 Part C format; the current USPS entry assessment has no memory section.

  20. 20. Coding Guide — Route A: 100-399 Larkspur Way. Route B: 400-799 Larkspur Way. Route C: 20-69 Havering Pl. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. How many of these five addresses must be coded to Route D: 399 Larkspur Way; 800 Larkspur Way; 19 Havering Pl; 55 Havering Pl; 400 Larkspur Way?

    • A.3
    • B.2Answer
    • C.4
    • D.1

Exactly two addresses fall outside every listed range: 800 Larkspur Way is one past Route B's 799 endpoint, and 19 Havering Pl is one below Route C's opening 20. The remaining three sit on or inside listed bands — 399 closes Route A's band, 400 opens Route B's, and 55 is inside Route C's — because endpoints are inclusive.

  21. 21. Coding Guide — Route A: 200-649 Wexham St; 15-74 Dolby Ct. Route B: 650-1099 Wexham St. Route C: all addresses on Petrel Ln. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. According to this guide, which route is assigned ranges on two different streets?

    • A.Route B
    • B.Route AAnswer
    • C.Route D
    • D.Route C

Route A is the only route carrying two entries, one band on Wexham St and one on Dolby Ct; B has a single Wexham St band, C has a single whole-street entry, and D is the catch-all and never lists ranges of its own. Noticing which route holds the most entries is a standard way to compress a guide before a memory block.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C — Coding Guide layout: eight address ranges distributed across Routes A, B and C, with Route D as the catch-allReport a problem with this question

  22. 22. Coding Guide — Route A: 100-449 Grimsby Ave. Route B: 450-899 Grimsby Ave. Route C: all addresses on Tallow Ln. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. Which assignment violates the guide?

    • A.900 Grimsby Ave to Route CAnswer
    • B.449 Grimsby Ave to Route A
    • C.12 Tallow Ln to Route C
    • D.100 Grimsby Ave to Route A

Route C is defined only by the street Tallow Ln, so a Grimsby Ave address can never be coded C; and because 900 is past Route B's 899 endpoint, it belongs to Route D. The other three match both a listed street and an inclusive numeric band, 100 and 449 being the first and last numbers of Route A's range.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — street-name match is required before any route other than D can be usedReport a problem with this question

  23. 23. Coding Guide — Route A: 25-99 Culver Ct. Route B: 100-399 Culver Ct. Route C: all addresses on Marnley Ln. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. To which route should 25 Culver Ct be assigned?

    • A.Route B
    • B.Route AAnswer
    • C.Route D
    • D.Route C

25 is the first number of Route A's 25-99 Culver Ct band, and listed ranges include both of their endpoints, so the address codes to A. Selecting D here is the mirror image of the out-of-range error: over-using the catch-all on legitimate boundary addresses costs just as many items as missing genuine out-of-range ones.

Source: Legacy USPS Exam 473/473E, Part C Section 1 (Coding) — listed address ranges are inclusive of their stated endpointsReport a problem with this question

  24. 24. Coding Guide — Route A: 500-949 Hensley Rd. Route B: 950-1399 Hensley Rd. Route C: 30-89 Quarry Ct. Route D: any address that does not fall in a listed range. Which address is coded to Route C?

    • A.29 Quarry Ct
    • B.1400 Hensley Rd
    • C.89 Quarry CtAnswer
    • D.950 Hensley Rd

Route C's only entry is 30-89 Quarry Ct, and 89 is that band's final number, which the range includes. 950 Hensley Rd opens Route B's band, while 29 Quarry Ct is one below Route C's start and 1400 Hensley Rd is one above Route B's end, so both of those fall outside every listed range and code to D.
